Mayer Hawthorne “Your Easy Lovin’ Ain’t Pleasin’ Nothin”

Mayer Hawthorne is a relatively new artist originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan. He’s now based in Los Angeles and is recording on the Stones Throw record label. Hawthorne’s sound is that of classic retro soul like that of the Motown and Stax records of the 1960s. One of the better songs on his debut record A Strange Arrangement is “Your Easy Lovin’ Ain’t Pleasin’ Nothin’.” This shuffling summertime jam makes use of a rhythm similar to that of the Supremes hit “You Can’t Hurry Love.”

Hawthorne has just released a video for this track and it’s a sight to see. The action of the video takes place in and around a David Hockney worthy Los Angeles swimming pool. The video features choreographed dancers in vintage swimwear straight out of one of the Beach Party movies. The best part? It’s all filmed in one take.

Take all of those elements, add in a cameo by Peanut Butter Wolf and you’ve got one of my all-time favorite music videos.
