The Movie That Only Made $30

Zyzzyx Road is an independent film released in 2006 starring Tom Sizemore and a pre-Grey’s Anatomy Katherine Heigl. Most reports indicate that it’s a pretty forgettable film, aside from the fact that it may be the lowest grossing film of all time, having made only thirty dollars. For one week in 2006, the film ran at the Highland Park Village Theater in Dallas, Texas in a screening room the producers had rented out for $1000. During its super-limited release, only six people found their way to the theater to watch the film. The producer’s didn’t mind the low domestic grossing, as the theatrical run was just a Screen Actors Guild formality, so that the movie could then undergo foreign distribution.

Entertainment Weekly has a fascinating story about the film.
