The Jolly Boys, “Rehab”

Mento is a Jamaican style of music that goes back to the 1950s and is considered a precursor to reggae. It’s said that Bob Marley and the Wailers were heavily influenced by mento. One of the biggest mento acts is a band called the Jolly Boys. In fact he Jolly Boys have been together almost as long as the genre has been around. Early this year, the Jolly Boys released a cover of Amy Winehouse’s signature song, “Rehab.” This performance creates a more laid back atmosphere with all of the classic sounds of mento.
