2010 Advent Calendar Day 12: Darlene Love

It simply isn’t Christmas without Darlene Love. For me, Christmas means putting on the excellent Phil Spector Christmas album and blasting Love’s signature song, “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).” Since its initial release in 1963, Spector and Love’s song has become a Christmas staple. In fact, since 1986 Love has performed it annually on David Letterman’s talk show. In 1992, Love and members of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band recorded a song for the soundtrack to Home Alone 2 called “All Alone On Christmas.” This song was written by E Street Band member, and longtime Love fan, Steven Van Zandt and features a lyrical nod to Love’s classic Christmas song.
