IBM’s Jeopardy! Playing Robot

IBM has created a robot that can mimic human intelligence and answer Jeopardy! style trivia questions. The robot, nicknamed Watson, seems to understand some of the subtleties of human speech often found in the quiz show’s questions and answers. In February, IBM and Jeopardy! will team up for a series of games in which Watson will compete in Jeopardy! matches against Brad Rutter, the show’s biggest money winner, and Ken Jennings, who famously had a 74 game win streak in 2004. The winner of the tournament will walk away with $1-million. If Watson wins, IBM will donate its winnings to charity. Rutter and Jennings have both said they’ll donate half of the winnings if they score a victory for humanity against the robot. Here’s video of Watson in action.
