The Muhammad Ali Punching Bag Sculpture

L. A. artist Michael Kalish has created an amazing and intricate tribute to the Greatest Of All Time, Mr. Muhammad Alli. Kalish has built a combination sculpture-portrait uses “1,300 punching bags, 6.5 miles of stainless steel cable, and 2,500 pounds of aluminum pipe to construct a 22-foot-high installation that took three years to complete.” This clever sculpture is designed so that from most angles it will just look like a collection of punching bags, however when one views it from head on, the portrait becomes clear. The piece is to be finished this month and will be unveiled at L. A. Live. At the unveiling ceremony, Ali himself will hang the final bag.
