Yahoo Answers vs. Infinite Jest

Ladies and Gentlemen, prepare yourself for the intellectual fight of the millennium.

In one corner we have David Foster Wallace’s Infinite Jest, often described as one of the late 20th century’s greatest books. The book is famous for, as Time Magazine describes it, “painfully funny dialogue and Wallace’s endlessly rich ruminations and speculations on addiction, entertainment, art, life and, of course, tennis.”  In the other corner we have Yahoo Answers, a site best known as a wretched hive of terrible decisions, internet trolls and plain ol’ stupidity.

So, you can imagine what happened when someone decided to post the first page of Infinite Jest on Yahoo Answers and ask for advice on how the writing could be improved. The distinguished critics at Yahoo Answers critique the word choices and complain about how “”There are so dang many HYPHENS!”

Check out the Yahoo Answers page here and prepare to laugh and/or cry.
