Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Dhani Harrison and Prince “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”

Last Friday, I got to see Prince perform live as part of his 21 Night Stand in Los Angeles. The Purple One puts on a really energetic show and if you’re in L. A, I urge you to to try to get tickets to the next show in the 21 Night Stand concert series. Some who attend a Prince concert might be surprised to learn that Prince can play a mean guitar solo. He really is an underrated guitarist and is so rarely talked about in terms of the “best guitarists of all time.” In fact, when Rolling Stone rattled off a list of the top 10o guitarists of all time, Prince was one of the notable omissions. Of course, this was a list that only had Pete Townsend in the #50 position, so you know something is amiss about it.

Anyway, to celebrate Prince’s amazing guitar work, here’s video from the 2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Prince was inducted that year alongside the late George Harrison. In tribute to Harrison, Prince joined Harrison’s son Dhani and Harrison’s Traveling Willburys bandmates Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty on an amazing cover of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.”
