It’s Freddie Mercury’s Birthday

Today marks the sixty-fifth anniversary of the birth of the late great Farrokh Bulsara aka Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. Tributes to the greatest rock star of all time have rolled in from such luminaries as Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters, Katy  Perry and Miss Piggy. However, the best Freddie birthday tribute has come in the for of an amazing Google Doodle. The animated Doodle features a cartoon Freddie performing on stage, riding his bike around the world and even fighting aliens in outer space, all set to the Queen classic “Don’t Stop Me Now.” The clip features references to Freddie’s famous costumes and several Queen videos including the legendary “I Want To Break Free” clip. The Freddie Mercury Google Doodle is currently playing on the Google homepage everywhere in the world, except for the United States. In observation of Labor Day, Google says they’ll show the Doodle on Tuesday, September 6th. However, it’s already been posted on Youtube for your enjoyment.

Happy birthday Freddy.
